For the Birds

My kids think I’m crazy. Well, maybe I am, but I like being crazy!

A conversation about 5 years ago went something like this:

Me: "I’ll bet being a bird is awful." (All right, I admit… what I actually said is, "I’ll bet it sucks to be a bird." I try very hard to avoid using that word, but it just fits so well in this case!)

Shelby: "What do you mean?"

Me: "Well, just think of it. The birds are outdoors 24/7. They get rained on, blown around by the wind. If it sleets, it sleets on them. When it hails, it hails on them."

Then, getting more dramatic: "They hang on icy wires and their poor little birdie feet get all frozen! In the summer time their delicate feathers get scorched by the blazing sun. How would you like to live in this climate in a house that is made of just sticks and leaves?"

Shelby was laughing by this time. "Momma, they’re BIRDS! They are designed to withstand the elements!"

I have had similar conversations with my kids over the years. They accuse me of having a bird fixation. That’s okay; they can tease me if they want to. But, whenever a winter storm approaches, one of the first things I think of is feeding the birds.

The Ice Man cometh and Snow-Mageddon is on the way. Let me assure you that our bird feeder is filled up and ready. It probably will still suck to be a bird in this storm, but hopefully not quite as much to the ones who live near our house!

Hair today... gone tomorrow!

Art likes to grow a Santa beard for Christmas, but the holiday is past. So, like the title said...

One day hair...

Next day... GONE!!!

Well, he did decide to keep the mustache for awhile longer. No use being stuck in a rut. :)

Silly stuff and Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Just a bit of video silliness to start the year out with a grin.

Terry snapped the two photos, but the timer went off before he made it into the first one. We laughed about how it looked on the camera, so I put it together as a video here. (The comedy may have been enhanced by the adult beverages, but that's okay. It's New Years!)

Hope everybody has a 2011 that is full of fun and laughs!!!
